Islington care homes: experiences of accessing health services for residents

We asked care home managers about access to health services for their residents.

Summary

Healthwatch staff and volunteers interviewed six managers of homes in Islington about access to health services for care home residents. We also hosted a virtual meeting for residents and relatives.

  • It was encouraging to hear how services adapted at the start of the pandemic to continue to provide care to some of our most vulnerable residents.
  • For dental care and eye care, some care homes seemed to have more responsive service provision than others.
  • Hospital transport continues to be a big issue for care home residents.
