A delightful canal adventure!

We took to the water to celebrate Volunteers Week 2025
Healthwatch volunteers cruising the canals

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we invited our amazing Healthwatch Islington volunteers to a special afternoon. We started at the London Canal Museum where we stepped back in time to explore the fascinating history of London’s canals and the people who lived and worked along them. From Victorian ice wells to colourful narrowboats, there was so much to discover.

Then, it was time for our Cream Tea Canal Cruise through the beautiful Regent’s Canal! We cruised through the Islington Tunnel, sipped tea, enjoyed scones with jam and clotted cream, and soaked up the peaceful views, all from the comfort of our window seats. Our guide shared stories of London’s waterways, making the journey even more special. We learned about London’s hidden waterways, saw some impressive lock mechanisms in action, and even spotted a few curious ducks along the way!

A huge thank you to our volunteers for their time, energy, and contributions to our mission.

It was a wonderful afternoon that will remain in our memories.
