Closing the Gap: Tackling Inequality in North Central London

Closing the Gap: Tackling Inequality in North Central London brought together over 100 professionals from 50 organisations to explore how health inequalities can be addressed through stronger partnership working, community insight and more joined-up services.

The event included contributions from a range of speakers and focused on the overlapping inequalities affecting residents across North Central London. 

Discussions highlighted the need to listen to local experience, work across organisational boundaries, and turn learning into practical action that improves access, inclusion and outcomes.

Challenging Inequalities Toolkit - The Next Chapter

This event brought together 32 participants to explore the next stage of the Toolkit, with presentations from The Maya Centre, Healthwatch Islington, Islington Mind and the Royal College of Art.

Feedback was positive, with 71% of respondents rating the event as very useful and 21% as useful. Participants reflected on the importance of accessible communications, practical organisational change, and involving people with lived experience. 

Many said they would review their communications, encourage more discussion about inclusivity, strengthen accountability, and use the Toolkit to support more inclusive policies, services and commissioning.

 

Progressing Equality - Pledge Event

7th April, 2025 

Lift Youth Hub

This event brought together 26 participants to explore inequalities in Islington, the combined Toolkit chapters, pledge updates, and how pledges can support organisational change.

Feedback was positive, with 60% of participants rating the event as very useful and 34% as useful. 

Discussions focused on making services and workplaces more inclusive, including through recruitment, appraisals, demographic data collection, culturally competent therapy, social prescribing, non-clinical community settings, and embedding the Toolkit into provider contracts.

Progressing Equality Event

28th October 2024

Lift - White Lion Street

This Progressing Equality event brought together 22 participants to explore the new LGBTQI+ chapter, the Social Model of Disability, and practical next steps for developing equality pledges.

Feedback was positive, with participants saying the session helped them think about how to progress equality in their own work. Key reflections included supporting LGBTQI+ older people in care settings, improving accessibility in referral processes and buildings, and involving residents more meaningfully in decisions and future planning.
