As a carer myself, I know how invaluable the wealth of information, resources, and support that's out there is. However, this information is not always easily accessed.

Deborah Jemmison, Healthwatch Islington

Last month, our staff team was bolstered by the arrival of Deborah Jemmison, our newly recruited best practice coordinator for carers engagement. Deborah will be working to develop better support for carers interacting with mental health services.

Deborah cares for a family member so understands the many challenges that carers face. A key part of her role will be to help the North Central London Mental Health Trust develop a carers engagement and best practice strategy.

"I'll be working across not just Islington," explained Deborah "but across Camden, Barnet, Haringey, and Enfield as well. The strategy will be a tool the Trust can use to improve the experiences of carers supporting people using mental health services in the five boroughs.

"It's important that carers feel supported, valued, and heard, and that they have access to the information that matters to them from the start of their caring journey. As a carer myself, I know how invaluable the wealth of information, resources, and support that's out there is. However, this information is not always easily accessed."
